The DOJ has seized wood sold to Gibson Guitar from Luthiers Mercantile valued in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. There has been no hearing held in this case. The wood was seized under a DOJ interpretation 92 year old Lacey act that has to do with importation of bird feathers. The DOJ said it was illegal to import guitar wood from India not because of American Law but the DOJ interpretation of Indian law. The result is that is it more difficult to obtain quality wood for this old American manufacturer, who however may be able to do so if they move overseas. Save American jobs Give Gibson their wood back! This could even result in the seizing of already made and privately owned guitars.
