Please oppose any bill that would repeal the ban on horse slaughter for human consumption.
Americans do not eat horse meat. This bill benefits only the interests of foreign specialty markets. In addition, most U.S. horse slaughter plants were historically foreign-owned. Horse slaughter is cruel due to the long-distance transport and the butchering methods involved. As "flight animals," horses are very sensitive to danger and notoriously difficult to stun prior to dismemberment, causing more suffering. Horse owners, the animal welfare community, equine rescue groups, and the majority Americans do not favor horse slaughter. Horses are a classic symbol of American freedom and are woven into the fabric of our national heritage. Please do not subject them to slaughter.
