Bats! Bats! Bats! Save the Bats from the mystery of white-nose syndrome. Its killing millions of bats across the continent and is an absolute enigma. Bats represent 20% of nature's mammals, are pollinators, battle mosquitoes and infectious diseases (such as malaria in humans and bird flu in fowl) plus disperse fruit seeds. This is as bad or worse than the bee epidemic yet receives no media coverage. Bats, like bees, are a litmus test for the health of the environment. We need to defend bats. Multiple species of North American bats now face extension. This is caused by a fungus which will spread without adequate understanding. A public policy initiative can educate the people to steps that should be taken to document and prevent the fungus's contamination. Save the Bats! Bats! Bats!
