We Support President Obama in his effort to pass the Marine Mammal Act to classify the Beluga Whales as a depleting class, and prohibit importation of aquatic animals from Russian waters. According to Obama’s proposal, the United States would outlaw the importation of the whales from Russian waters. By doing so, as a nation, we would no longer import the Beluga Whales for entertainment, scientific and or educational observations throughout the country at various aquariums and other aquatic establishments. While the United States is not Russia’s sole importer of Whales, but according to NMFS if the US enacts the piece of legislation they will be at liberty to limit import permits and provide Russia with knowledge and assistance in preserving the species.
