The Bristol Bay watershed, located in southwest Alaska, is the largest sockeye salmon fishery in the world. It supports a $500 million commercial fishing industry and is one of the last pristine, fully-functioning ecosystems in the United States, but now Bristol Bay is threatened by a proposed open-pit mine known as Pebble that the EPA has determined to be huge environmental hazard. One of the only ways to stop the Pebble Mine is for the Obama Administration to use the Clean Water Act. The economic benefits of building the open-pit mine do not justify the huge environmental and humanitarian disasters it will likely create.
