In two of the last five presidential elections, the winner of the Electoral College vote was not the winner of the popular vote. It is time for the Congress and the President to lead America into a truer form of Democracy by supporting an Amendment to the Constitution to eliminate the Electoral College and to elect the President by direct popular vote. This would better reflect the will of the people as well as make it so that the last vote cast in Hawaii was as important as the first vote counted in New Hampshire. This would make EVERY state and not just the "swing states" important in an election.
In its 240th year, the United States does not need the anachronistic and anti-democratic institution to protect against the whims of mob-rule. The USA is too mature for that anymore.
