Save DR Martin Luther King Jr’s Nobel Prize and Bible from being sold. These should be held in the public trust in DC.

Created by J.S. on February 04, 2014

Mr. President,

Dr Martin Luther King Jr’s sons want to sell Dr. King’s Nobel Prize and Bible. These are national treasures that should be held in the public trust in Washington DC for posterity not in the hands of private collectors.

These items should have a place of honor either next to our sacred documents in the National Archives or in the new National Museum of African American History and Culture. Sir, you took your Presidential Oath on this Bible. It is a symbol of perseverance and was the inspiration for Dr. King’s steadfastness in his struggle. The Nobel Peace Prize was the acknowledgment from the world that his struggle was a worthy one.

Dr. King’s dream inspires us to this day and will continue to inspire for centuries. These tangible symbols must be preserved.
