The Florida Panther has been an endangered species since 1973 and is indigenous to southern Florida. There are an estimated 100-160 left in existence. As the only full cougar species in the Eastern US, as well as the State Animal of Florida, this species should be protected from possible harm. Section 2c1 of the Endangered Species Act states: "It is further declared to be the policy of Congress that all Federal departments and agencies shall seek to conserve endangered species and threatened species and shall utilize their authorities in furtherance of the purposes of this Act."
We ask that you rescind and not allow leases to drill for oil in and near the FPNWR that have recently been or may be granted to Tocala LLC and Burnett Oil Co. so that the Florida Panther does not become extinct.
