I am writing to urge you to follow the EU's lead and enact a two-year ban on all neonicotinoid pesticides due to the growing body of data linking these chemicals to the massive die-offs of honey bees and other pollinators. Several recent studies point to these chemicals as being responsible, in part, if not all, for the massive die-offs of honey bees in the U.S., Europe and other parts of the world over the past 8 years.
Italy placed a ban on certain neonicotinoids in 2008 with promising results. Hives are rebounding and there have been no negative effects on crop yields to date. The EU has just begun its two-year ban. The U.S. should follow suit immediately.
