save the pregnant Sudanese woman, Meriam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag, from her sentencing of death by hanging.

Created by G.S. on May 22, 2014

A Sudanese court recently sentenced Meriam Yahia Ibrahim Ishag, pregnant with child, for violating Sudan's Islamic sharia law by marrying a Christian man, law that makes conversions of faith punishable by death.

Ibrahim is a Christian woman and never professed Islamic faith, but was deemed Muslim by Sudanese authorities by her absent father's religion. She is currently held in Omdurman's Women Prison near Khartoum, under deplorable conditions with her 20-month-old son.

A sentencing of death, moral or not, cannot reasonably be applied to someone changing their religion. These unjust sentences cannot be tolerated by the USA.

I understand the State Department has considered itself "disturbed" by the case, but this petition is for the USA to take direct diplomatic action with Sudan now.
