The SS United States is currently in disrepair, and will be scrapped if a donor does not come forth with $500,000 for the SS United States Conservancy. For years, no one has come forth. The ocean liner, the largest ship ever built in the United States and fastest ocean liner to ever cross the Atlantic, is a monument to the American Dream - the idea of coming west by ship to fulfill one's destiny in land of freedom and opportunity. This ship carried over 1 million people on its transatlantic voyages; must we let the medium through which so many people made their dreams become reality fall to the hands of scrappers?
Converting this beautiful ocean liner into a museum or a floating hotel could create hundreds of onboard jobs and millions of dollars in revenue. Save the ship; save the dream.
