America needs a legal limit for the length of time it takes to sing the Star Spangled Banner.
At major professional events and everyday performances, our national anthem is twisted, stretched and turned into an unrecognizable mishmash of musical mockery by musicians who are showing off their pipes. The fact is, while Americans are holding their hands over our hearts, many would prefer to have them over their ears.
From start to finish, the average length of the song is 1 minute, 34 seconds. Over the last eight Super Bowls, the average length of the national anthem has been one minute, 56 seconds. This year, Vegas set the odds for Idina Menzel’s performance at 2 minutes, 1 second…she surpassed that by 3 seconds. Please reestablish the musical boundaries for the National Anthem!
