Every year, the United States wastes tens of millions of dollars on the minting of obsolete coins. Each penny made by the federal government is worth one cent. However, the penny costs over TWO cents to make. This means that approximately twenty million dollars were thrown away for no reason at all. This is at a time when the government needs to save as much as it can, and both the penny and the nickel cost more than they are worth. Other countries, such as Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, have already realized the idiocy of continued production of these forms of currency and have already switched. All we ask is that the United States join these nations.
