The Thanksgiving Day Holiday has been co-opted as a commercial event to further the profits of a few people at the expense of the vast majority of America's families. For many years now "Black Friday" has been a staple of the American consumer economy and the premier shopping event of the holiday season.
Although we recognize that people should be free to run their own businesses as they see fit, this does not give corporations and shareholders the right destroy our nation's traditions by requiring employees to work on Thanksgiving, thus creating a truly "Black Thursday".
We therefore petition the President and Congress to end this practice using regulation/ legislation and return to us this important family holiday that will soon be sacrificed on the altar of greed.
