Since 2006 congress has placed a huge financial burden on the USPS. A law which requires the pre-funding of 75 years of retiree health care benefits in a 10 year window. No public or private company has to bear this burden.
Make no mistake, this law was a thinly veiled conservative attempt to bleed the USPS of money and make them ripe for privatization.
At the moment Issa will not allow the Senate bill 1789 or House bill 1351 to come to a vote. Instead, he is touting his own bill 2309, which would surely kill the USPS as we know it.
Since congress will not act, I am asking you, President Obama to use executive power to at LEAST stall any closures or layoffs until after the elections.
