Save the United States Postal Service: Roll back the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006

The United States Postal Service (USPS) since its creation has been a marvel of efficiency and a true testament to the benefits of government. It is the only agency of the government that functions entirely without taxpayer money, and had been perfectly sustainable until the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act was passed in 2006. The act required that the USPS fund 100% of any future health benefits for its employees over the next 75 years. The act only gave the USPS 10 years to accomplish this goal, running up a bill of $5.5 Billion a year. In addition to this outstanding requirement, the act also limits the USPS from offering "non postal" services, essentially eliminating any competitive practices the USPS might employ to help increase its revenues.
