According to the paper "A Simple Printing Solution to Aid Deficit Reduction" (authored by Suvir Mirchandani and Peter Pinko), changing the font of the US Government's documents to Garamond (with the same font size) would create an estimated savings between $30 and $136 million, about 29 percent in ink costs. Because of this change's simplicity and cost-reduction aspect, bi-partisan support should be easily attainable. To give government agencies time to disseminate the change, it is proposed that this take effect FY 2016.
