Many states have laws on the books which prevent mortgage lenders from collecting a deficiency judgment from homeowners when the lender sells the home during foreclosure. This is not the case for vets who received loans through the va. Because the courts, whose members overwhelmingly lack military experience, have construed the deficiency of a veteran's mortgage loan sold in foreclosure to be not a deficiency, but a violation of a soldier's solemn duty to indemnify the US government from said deficiency, thousands of veterans have faced financial ruin the rest of us do not have to face. The lenders do not even have to provide notice of the pending deficiency, which is mind boggling considering how often vets must move in order for them to do their job of keeping us safe. Change It!
