It is said Canada will export their tar sands oil whether or not the U.S. allows Canada to export this highly corrosive oil through the heart of America's Breadbasket. The environmental costs of extracting this high carbon oil couldn't be worse. The U.S. should not help Canada or any other country make climate change worse by facilitating the use of high carbon oil that will accelerate climate more than most oil, destroy extensive water and land during the extraction of the oil, and put our farmlands, rivers, and aquifers at risk during the export of the oil. As a friend said, "climate change is a moral issue now. Imagine yourself suddenly transported to a slave auction, you would refuse to participate even though you knew that those slaves up there were going to be sold, regardless."
