Immediately fund the Department of Education to hire, train, and implement "School Marshals" for every school district in America. Following the concept of "Air Marshals" on planes, this would provide an armed and protective presence in our nation's schools until we as a country can get a better grip on how to solve the epidemic of mass killings. Additionally, allow teachers, principals, and other school personnel to train for Marshal status. Ensure that those armed to protect children and schools undergo intensive psychological testing and training to act if the need arises. This is possibly an interim solution to the larger issue at hand. School Marshal's presence could be a successful deterrent to would be Columbines/Newtowns/UVAs,
