Scrutinize For-Profit Schools' Tuition Costs and Graduation Rates

Created by R.K. on August 25, 2013

We applaud the Obama Administration's efforts to make a college education affordable for all American Citizens. Moreover, we agree that relating tuition costs to graduation rates is an excellent starting point for measuring an institution's success.

As part of this effort, we ask that the Administration include schools in the for-profit sector. While the majority of these schools provide a quality education at a fair price, there are a few that divert a disproportionate share of tuition revenues to marketing and to the schools' stakeholders.

Specifically, as part of making schools accountable, we want for-profit schools included in your initiative. We would like to see what percentage of gross revenues is spent on recruiting students, and what percentage is paid to shareholders.
