By publicly refusing to hold a vote on the nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, the Senate has forfeited its role of providing "advice and consent” (as specified by Article II, Section 2 of the United States Constitution) with respect to the President's selection. Thus, we the people respectfully ask President Obama to appoint Merrick Garland to the United States Supreme Court effective immediately to fill Justice Scalia’s seat. The Supreme Court simply cannot function effectively with only eight members. Furthermore, Judge Garland is extremely qualified to sit on the Court (as both Democrats and Republicans can attest to) and would serve this country proudly as one of its Associate Justices.
