It is unfair to force students to recite the pledge due to the religious reference, which directly goes against the First Amendment. This reference to Christianity is unfair to large amounts of the U.S. population, seeing as not everyone believes in God. After all, when the pledge was first written, the words "Under God" were not added until years later.
