Our nation’s air traffic control communications system with passenger air craft is unsecure? Anyone can get on these radio frequencies and issue false air traffic control commands? In 1993, the “Roanoke Phantom Controller” was arrested for intentionally issuing harmful commands to passenger aircraft. Since then, the FAA has done nothing to correct the problem. The threat a well-planned attack could have is devastating.
The solution is easy; add an “authentication key” to the pilot's and air traffic controllers communications. The device would allow receivers to distinguish between legitimate and bogus transmissions completely eliminating the problem.
