secure our schools with bullet proof glass, metal detectors and a full time police officer.

I would like to see schools with two sets of double doors. the first set of doors would be equipped with a metal detector and before anyone could enter (after school has begun) they would be buzzed in by a person that is protected by bullet proof glass much like you see in police stations or court houses. all windows in schools should be bullet proof and all doors should be steel with automatic locking mechanisms in the case an armed intruder was identified. once an armed person is in a school it is too late. two sets of double doors, one with a metal detector and a window with bullet proof glass for better identification by an authorized person is a pretty good deterrent.
