I know the matters of money are handled by the executive branch of the US gov't, but this is just another outlet to let the government know that the people of the USA no longer want the 1¢ coin in circulation. The "penny" as is colloquially known is being made at a lost to the taxpayers of this country and the people are tried of hearing that politians want to do something about the budget yet nothing is actually done. Will getting rid of the penny save enough to balance the budget? Not sure it truly can, but is better than wasting money. Our neighbor to the north got rid of their 1¢ coin not to long ago and no calamities happened, the Canadian gov't just stopped making them and the supply of 1¢ coins is diminishing this was also done by other countries to help their people and budgets.
