Seek legislation to prohibit the use of Social Security numbers for any use other than tracking Social Security accounts

This petition asks the White House to seek legislation in Congress that would prohibit all uses of Social Security numbers (SSNs) other than for legitimate tracking of account information by the Social Security Administration. The risks to personal and homeland security of the rampant use of SSNs as quasi-universal tracking numbers are too high. Unless the government can devise a system that protects the identities of all SSN holders, the government should make it illegal to use SSNs as a convenient tracking system.
