Seek a modification of the 2nd Amendment in response to technological advancements made since its ratification in 1791.

Created by R.M. on December 17, 2012

Adopted in 1791, the 2nd Amendment has been used over the last several decades to protect the rights of gun owners. The Supreme Court ruled that the 2nd Amendment protected the rights of gun owners and that current state and local restrictions were consistent with the amendment.

This petition deals with the technological progress made since this one line amendment was written 220 years ago.

At that time, single shot black powder muskets were the only firearms commonly available. Today, assult rifles and automatic pistols have fire rates in the hundreds of rounds per minute.

This petition asks that President Obama review and possibly modify the amendment to address new weapon techonologies developed in the last 200 years.

This is NOT to revoke the amendment, but to bring it up to date.
