The continued embargo of Cuba is an embarrassment to the United States as it sets a double standard and has been a failure in achieving the original aims. Currently one of the United States largest trading partners (the People's Republic of China) suffers limited trade restrictions although it is known that they curtail the rights of individuals in ways similar to those that have been used as reasoning for the continued economic sanctions.
The United States is the only country that is enforcing a trade embargo against the Republic of Cuba, the primary reason that this is still in effect is that it is used to court a minority of voters.
Polling data shows that the majority of Americans are in favor of lifting the economic restrictions against Cuba.
