The current entry policy for immigrants spouses of United States Citizens who entered the country WI negatively effects American families as well as the US economy. The current law, though not by design, punishes those who are honest, maintain long term marriages with American citizens and have American children, while rewarding the unmarried former illegal immigrants who often commit fraud with almost instant legal entry into the United States. Though this was not the original intent of the law, it is most often applied in this manner and has become counterproductive in nature.
