This petition encourages the Obama administration to consider the appointment of Janet Yellen, the current Federal Reserve Vice Chairman, to succeed Ben Bernanke as the Fed Chair.
This would expand upon Mr. Bernanke's efforts to stabilize the markets following the Great Recession. It would also avoid any unfortunate ties to prior administrations by selecting Mr. Summers as the successor.
Yellen is well-regarded for her ability to build consensus among disparate committee members, particularly among the inflation hawks on the committee. Her strong communication skills and monetary policy expertise make her the ideal candidate to expand upon the open communication established under Mr. Bernanke.
Finally, this would be an appointment that properly rewards an economist based upon merit.
