select a Jewish rabbi to perform the benediction at the inauguration.

Created by K.S. on January 11, 2013

Your last benediction was delivered by an evangelical with a large following, and that was your first choice for this year's benediction as well. It is my understanding that at least the last 9 inaugural benedictions have been delivered by Protestants. When James Madison signed the treaty of Tripoli he made clear that we are not a Christian nation, and you have admirably noted the existence of other religions and the non-religious among Americans, but in real practical terms, Christianity seems omnipresent. A rabbi would show a real commitment to America's diversity.
In considering the political image, surely a rabbi could be found whose synagogue was damaged by, or is serving those affected by hurricane Sandy.
