Currently the Chinese government is building forward bases in the South China Sea in contested lands that have historically been owned by the Republic of the Philippines, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, and other nations that are considered allies and or trade partners with the United States of America. China's initiative is to use land reclamation to build islands that would possibly be used as forward bases to attack allies but bases that could also be used to interfere with valuable shipping of oil and other commodities that transverse the South China Sea and the waterways of the Pacific. Many of these nations have been on increased alert due to China's land expansion. We have many destroyers and other ships in our reserve fleet which could help to bolster their defense and stabilize the region
