The Obama Administration should encourage the US Senate to ratify the 1997 Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines and on their Destruction (or Mine Ban Treaty).
Worldwide, landmines kill and maim ordinary people everyday, and do not discriminate between soldiers, women, children, or the elderly. When conflicts end, they remain hidden in the ground and take loved ones away from their families decades later.
A bi-partisan super-majority of US Senators have expressed their support to join 160 other countries and the international community in saying good riddance landmines.
