The Bureau of Labor Statistics has a department called Occupational Employment Statistics where they do some remarkable work.

This department tracks 22 occupational categories.

The two that I find most interesting are:
15-0000 Computer and Mathematical
17-0000 Architecture and Engineering

In 1999 we had the following quantity of jobs in these two categories:
15-0000 / 2,620,080
17-0000 / 2,506,380
This gives us a combined total of STEM jobs of 5,126,460

In 2013 we had the following quantity of jobs in these two categories:
15-0000 / 3,696,180
17-0000 / 2,380,840
This gives us a combined total of STEM jobs of 6,077,020

This is an increase of 950,560 STEM jobs between 1999 to 2013.

During that same time period we issued an average of 85,000 H-1B visas per year.

This is 1,190,000 H-1B
