Seven score and ten years ago, President Lincoln took a train from Washington D.C. to Gettysburg, PA to attend the consecration of the Soldier's National Cemetery. The two minute, 271-word speech Mr. Lincoln delivered is perhaps the best known speech in American history. It memorialized the sacrifices of the Union soldiers and reiterated the principles of human equality espoused by the Declaration of Independence.
We believe that it would honor a great president, and be a great thing for this nation were President Obama to return there on the anniversary and deliver the Address again. It would be an affirmation that "government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."
