Separate the authority of the U.S.D.A. to regulate food producers and set nutritional guidelines

Created by G.F. on February 16, 2012

We petition the U.S. Government to separate the authority of the U.S. Department of Agriculture to regulate the food industry from its authority to set nutritional guidelines. The USDA has dual and conflicting roles. Separation will reduce direct or indirect influence the industry being regulated has on recommendations regarding the American diet. Regulators should not be forces to split their loyalties between the industry they regulate and the American people. Let nutritional guidelines be prescribed by experts in the field of human nutrition, not by food producers and the individuals who regulate them. Let a division of the H.H.S., solely dedicated to the task and free from undo influence, set nutritional guidelines.
