The federal minimum wage of $7.25 has already been established by reporters, politicians and experts as too low for making a living paycheck, but raising the entire minimum wage rate for all Americans could damage the employment rate of many low-skill service and industrial jobs, and hurt the entire US economy.
By separating the minimum wage into several age groups, with a unique rate for each group, the younger, more unskilled and untrained generation would still be employable at many more unskilled jobs, and as youth turn 18 and begin paying for more expenses independently, often including college debt, a higher minimum wage applies. And finally a raise for adults 26 and older, where most work is in skilled professions.
