Separate the two conflicting responsibilities of the USDA

Created by M.K. on September 12, 2014

The USDA is responsible for support of agriculture and also responsible for insuring that food is safe and wholesome. These responsibilities conflict and result in poor consumer protection.

Please separate the food safety, nutritional awareness (including food labeling), the school lunch programs, and other consumer protections into a division of the Department of Health.

The improvements denied by the dual responsibilities of the USDA include:
1) Fixing food labels: list Fiber separately from Carbohydrates (related chemically, but not related in the body). Label Sugars as having an RDA of "less than 50 grams".
2) Requirement to list engineered genetic enhancements (GMOs) in ingredients.
3) Simplify the ingredients list (combine ingredients from all sources).
