We will never be able to outlaw guns. But we can tax the bullets. This petition encourages active dialogue in a creative way to stop gun violence without demeaning either party's platforms.
In the same way that massive taxes on cigarettes are used to deter smoking, we should seriously consider a hefty sales and/or use tax on bullets.
Exceptions could include gun clubs, where we know the guns are being used for practice and recreational target practice, possibly at certain times during hunting seasons when population control is necessary.
This tax could benefit the victims of crimes, increase security systems for schools and other public institutions, help fund teacher and staff training for emergencies, and to teach those who own guns the proper ways to use them.
