Elon Musk and his team has just released the Hyperloop alpha documents, outlining a new means of transportation, capable of transporting passangers from L.A. to S.F. in just 30 minutes. This work was started about a year ago, and the main goal has been to make this technology open for the public; to increase the chances of making this project a reality. In my opinion he is doing the public a great service, and I think we should welcome this proposal as a serious alternative for the planned high-speed railway. Yes, a lot of work remains in proving this to be a viable means of transportation. But if the Hyperloop can be safer, faster and cheaper than other alternatives, the government should provide help in building a proof-of-concept prototype of the Hyperloop.
