Set energy efficiency standards for set-top boxes and game consoles

Created by R.B. on July 03, 2014

The International Energy Agency released a report showing that by using existing technology, set-top box and game console manufacturers can reduce energy consumption globally by 600 tera-watt hours. Many of these devices use 80% - 100% of their power while "idling".

If the US forces these manufacturers to make these updates, it will change the units shipped around the world in the same way that California's emissions and fuel economy standards drive standards around the country since the incremental cost of these updates is small.

Mr. President, please set energy efficiency standards for game consoles and set-top boxes to bring them into the 21st century.
