Not for purely budgetary reasons, but in recognition that it is an affront to the people they represent, elected members of the Presidential Administration and members of Congress should not be compensated with a pay scale that puts them often in the top 5% of wage earners in this country. Elected officials are social servants, there to represent the people, not to become wealthy. Unchecked ability to vote themselves raises year after year is an entitlement we are no longer willing to accept. As an example of sacrifice for the greater good, and in recognition of all the people they serve, our elected officials, from the President down, should be paid an amount more commensurate to a US median household income.
