set an example for the world by setting a deadline to dismantle the entire nuclear weapons arsenal of the United States

Created by S.S. on August 06, 2015

Nuclear weapons are a blight on human history. Though first utilized to expedite the end of World War II to ward of a costly invasion of Japan, what is now known about their destructive power makes their continued presence unjustifiable. Destruction caused by nuclear weapons makes it virtually impossible to discriminate against legitimate military targets and the lives of innocent civilian populations. Nuclear weapons today are much more destructive than the Little Boy and Fat Man bombs dropped in 1945. We currently keep these weapons as a "deterrent" against forces that may threaten the United States and our allies, while openly denying that deadly privilege to other nations that want them for the same reasons. We ask for the US to lead by example and rid ourselves of these weapons.
