We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

Set a Federal standard for police training on deescalation and on recognition of implicit bias.

Created by E.T. on July 07, 2016

Police kill Black people at a rate disproportionate to both criminal activity and their presence in the population at large. We need to return to a standard of police protecting our communities through commonsense interactions with citizens, rather than extrajudicial killings. There should be a federal minimum standard for hours both in the classroom and outside the classroom teaching new and existing officers deescalation techniques. There should be a federal minimum standard for teaching new and existing officers about implicit bias and how that can potentially influence their interactions with people of color.
