Heavy contributors (ie: corporations, high income private citizens and PACs) have helped to sway elections in their favor by providing obscene amounts of money to fund candidates of their choice. Setting limits on such contributions would curtail getting these "bought" politicians from getting into office and aid in getting those that are actually looking out for their constituents' best interests into office.
