Set a national goal for 50% reduction of type II diabetes by 2016.

Created by J.W. on October 26, 2011

Type II diabetes and its concomitant diseases account for 1/3 of Medicare expenditures. Recent research has demonstrated that Type II diabetes is for the most part preventable and curable, hence a "disease of choice". Many private and government sponsored resources are helpful for those who seek help, but they are all so "politically correct" and concerned about offending someone, they fail to convey a sense of urgency on personal responsibility for the disease like we did with smoking and its related diseases. A national goal like "50% reduction in Type II diabetes by 1916" coupled with a coordinated effort by the health care community to get tough and goal oriented on this problem would be a win for everyone, not to mention a giant step in keeping healthcare affordable.
