The federal minimum wage used to assure citizens that they would be able to survive. Recently congress has been against making sure everyone who works can afford to live.
I propose that we set the pay schedule for all members of congress to 200% of minimum wage, which is still twice as much as we force companies to pay people. If congress thinks 7.85 if enough for citizens to survive on, I propose we make them live off of twice that.
The pay rate would be set to change as minimum wage changes. This would help balance out some of our governments pay schedules while the economy is in shambles, plus set the living standards of congress in a direct relationship with the standards of poor people in our country.
