Every city street (not including freeways) should provide a safe space for all forms of traffic. Bike lanes and sidewalks should be required along every road. Other modes of transportation (mopeds, golf carts, scooters, etc.) should also be allowed to use city streets.
Also, roads which are not freeways, should not act like freeways. City streets should be limited to four vehicle lanes, two bike lanes, and two sidewalks. They should also limit speeds to 40 mph. Exceeding these limits creates a freeway without the benefit of pedestrian/cyclist safety.
And to compensate for environmental degradation, shade-producing native trees should be planted along every city street to reverse the concrete/asphalt jungle our cities have become.
