Members of Congress should have set term limits, similar to that of the Presidency. This would have a number of benefits for the country.
- Special interest groups would have less influence since the concept of a career politician in Congress would be over. Legislation would be put first instead of re-election. Members of Congress would only need to listen to their constituents.
- Congress would become more adaptable. As the world speeds up, Congress is becoming more and more out of touch. Term limits would regularly change Congress' demographic and would better reflect the views of the country.
These are just a few of the positive benefits to term limits. Prior attempts (such as 2 6-year terms) were too long. 2 4-year terms or even shorter would be more ideal.
